i found a vintage bentwood rocking chair for $50 at a vintage store and my sister helped me paint it teal blue. i bought the morrocan pouf on ebay (the cheapest place to buy them!), found a vintage needlepoint pillow on etsy, the awesome southwestern blanket was a handmade gift from my awesomest mother-in-law, a sheepskin rug from ikea, a dreamcatcher from urban outfitters (great resource for baby and kids rooms), vintage wood crates from etsy that i used as a bookshelf/nightstand table and a zebra pillow from salvor and a lamp from urban outfitters.
my philosophy on crib bedding (actually all types of bedding) is to keep it super simple, so you can play up other parts of the room like the rug and the walls. this simple and sweet bedding is from auggie, the amazing handmade felt mobile is from etsy, the teal quilt is from land of nod, the “love” print is from london and the jenny lind crib was a hand me down from a friend.
this storage unit is from ikea, the cool baskets (i’m a huge fan of baskets for storage in kids rooms) are from a store called lost and found here in LA, the rustic shelf was made by my nephew, the cool “be brave” print is from etsy, the moccasins are from minnetonka (love these), the stuffed fox is from anthropologie and the stuffed bearded man is from etsy.
i had so much fun coming up with the theme and design of our son’s nursery. i started out thinking i wanted it to have a “rustic log cabin” feel, but as time went on and i found more things i wanted to include in the room, it turned into what i have decided to call a “rustic native american” theme. in decorating the room, i realized that it all comes down to individual things i love, not necessarily keeping with one look or style. and that goes for the way i dress and decorate my home as well. i know what i like, and if it doesn’t fit into my usual look or idea, so what? sure, decorating and dressing this way can lead to an “eclectic” look, but that’s the fun of it. i spent a lot of time searching etsy, ebay, my favorite kids websites, and home decor blogs and magazines. there are items i knew right off the bat that I wanted to incorporate, like an antler chandelier and a vintage bentwood rocking chair. and then there were items i stumbled upon, like the handmade felt mobile and the vintage serape rug. i love the end result. it’s my favorite room in the house. it’s fun and interesting, and also warm and sweet for our baby.
um…can’t really say enough about this brand i found via instagram called salt city emporium. i’m in love. i want every pair for phoenix, in every size. they are made of organic cotton and earth friendly inks, and those prints! they’re all $32-$34 which is reasonable for kids leggings. go get yourself a pair or five.
as i search blogs and shop online, i find so many amazing things that i covet. since i can’t buy everything, i satisfy my urges by sharing my favorite finds here, and on pinterest of course. i’ve been inspired lately by anything bohemian, beachy and tribal. i’ll call it “beachemian”. since i just got back from maui and have a current obsession with all things made in australia, this style seems fitting.
